4Ocean and the growing problem of overfishing Posted on 6 Aug 12:05 , 0 comments

4Ocean is a global movement to pull trash from the ocean and coastlines, one pound per 4Ocean bracelet sold, and raise awareness and funding for environmental causes that help restore the health of the ocean. For the month of August, they are focusing on the growing problem of overfishing around the world. In partnership with SeaLegacy they are providing funding from the sale of their limited edition 4Ocean Overfishing Red Bracelet. They have confirmed that a minimum donation of $10,000 will be made to SeaLegacy for their efforts to help generate a more abundant ocean.

The issue with overfishing begins with the fact that only one in three of all fish caught never makes it to the consumer, that the majority of the catch is thrown back overboard or rots before it can be eaten. If we agree to set fish catch limits in accordance with scientific advice and stop illegal and destructive fishing we can begin to reverse this. More details of these figures can be viewed here: http://www.fao.org/state-of-fisheries-aquaculture/en/
