Overfishing in the UK and the 4Ocean bracelet Posted on 6 Aug 12:03

4Ocean is a global movement to remove trash from the ocean and help clean-up the coastlines by the sale of their 4Ocean bracelet but they also champion individual environmental marine causes to increase awareness and build support. Currently, they are focusing on the issue of overfishing with the release of their 4Ocean Overfishing Red Bracelet which is in partnership with SeaLegacy and their efforts to help create a healthier and more abundant ocean. This is a particular issue in the UK as here the fishing limits set are against scientific advice given by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).

In 2017, the UK tops the league table of the highest percentage of total allowable catch (TAC) in excess of scientific advice. The UK allow overfishing by 15% above the levels that scientists have determined to be consistent with the sustainable management of these fish stocks.
