A Unique View of Edinburgh by Nick Martin Posted on 22 Sep 17:50
If you’ve been into either of our shops within the past month you will have surely noticed an amazing artwork by Nick Martin in our window displays. His intricate print features a unique aerial view of Edinburgh’s New Town from above the castle.
Originating from Edinburgh, Nick Martin now lives and works on the Isle of Wight. Though primarily a portrait painter he also works on large scale collage pieces which are then made into prints like this one.
The idea for this collage began as a sketch purely from recollection before Nick gradually started adding details whilst taking frequent trips back to the city to refresh his memories of Auld Reekie. Working from the top of the image down, Nick told us of how it took many many hours of meticulous work to build up the layers of nuance that form the complete image.
The panorama takes in the Castle ramparts and the One O'Clock Gun, across New Town rooftops and city landmarks, and out to the Firth Of Forth, the Bridges, and all the way across to the Lomond Hills in Fife.
This print of the original collage of Edinburgh captures the detailed and time-consuming effort that has gone into this artwork. The original work is on display in the head office of Edinburgh Fund Managers Baillie Gifford; all of the reproductions are high-quality giclée prints on linen paper.
As an Edinburgh native, Nick has shopped with Paper Tiger for decades, and he had us in mind for the exclusive print edition - in fact, the original collage uses papers that Nick originally bought in our shop!
Nick’s print comes in four sizes, ranging from £100 to £250 and is available both in-store and on our website.
