Do You Realise That Life Goes Fast? Posted on 19 Aug 17:45

From East To West, And Back Again.

This has been a busy week for the Paper Tiger Team, as we are running a pop up shop within John Lewis at the brand new St James Quarter. We're showing off all the Paper Tiger ranges alongside some of the biggest consumer brands on the High Street.

It's been an interesting - and tiring - experience for my team and I to take our ranges into a new space; to look at what we do - and how we do it - from a fresh perspective. I moved to Edinburgh twenty seven years ago (1994!) to manage the old HMV Shop in the centre. The city has changed so much in that time and, although the new St James is a largely an improvement on the old one, I have been acutely aware that the passage of time has had an impact on the city. And me.

As I have walked from West to East and back again over the last couple of days, I have literally been looking at my life from a different perspective, and almost from a different time, thinking of the choices I have made, the changes in my own life, and how they have shaped me. I'm going to casually throw some Socrates (philosophise with him) at you: "the unexamined life is not worth living".  Sometimes a fresh perspective on what you are doing and how you are doing it can help you see the path ahead more clearly.

Something New

The St James Quarter is a huge investment in the city. The range of brands is quite intriguing,  and the overall mix of shopping, hospitality and leisure is a sign of the future.

The development is the biggest change in the city centre since I moved here. It has already changed the skyline and the city, but time will tell whether it has improved Edinburgh for residents and visitors!

Something Old

I never get tired of this view - I used to live right here on The Vennel - and I have had the privilege of living and working in the shadow of the Castle for much of my time in the city..

The Castle Rock has been a stronghold for millennia, and I am certain that Edinburgh  Castle will outlast the St James Centre, continuing to dominate the city for many millennia more.

Love From Lothian Road

Life goes on on Lothian Road! It's getting busier every week with Festival and Fringe venues all around us, and the Book Festival around the corner in the Edinburgh College Of Art.

Edinburgh Film Festival starts this weekend, with events across the city hosted by our neighbours at The Filmhouse.

West End, Best End

In Stafford Street, we are busy planning and preparing for the next few months with deliveries of new products, and things in boxes that I would probably have to describe as seasonal

We're also busy with recruiting! Please share this with anyone you know who might be interested in working with us.

Poppy Pops Into The Pop Up

So far, we've had great customer feedback from people who know us, and from customers who are new to Paper Tiger. We're very grateful for the support; please come and see us - here's Poppy saying hi - in our THREE shops this week, or shop online

Over the coming days, weeks, and months we will be unveiling new products as we continue to mark our fortieth year with special editions, exclusives, and special Paper Tiger ranges.
