Loggerhead sea turtles are the world's largest hard-shelled turtles and are named for their large heads and powerful jaw muscles. On average they weigh around 300lbs and can grow up to 80inches long. They primarily live along the southeastern coast of North America.

These turtles are at great risk of bycatch, as they spend the majority of their time in the open ocean and shallow coastal waters where fishing is concentrated. They also find it hard to differentiate between plastic and their prey, meaning they ingest plastic which causes blockages that can lead to starvation and death.
